PARMA -- A Nyssa, Oregon man is behind bars in Canyon County after police say he led them on a high speed chase and then barricaded himself in Parma mobile home.

Parma police tell KTVB it all started when drug task force officers from Malheur and Payette Counties tried to pull over car driven by a man wanted on several felony warrants.

Police say the man, Adan William Oviedo, 24, tried to elude officers by driving through fields and going through Parma at faster than 50 miles per hour. He then abandoned his car and took off on foot, before barricading himself inside a trailer in 600 block of E. Fisk Avenue, police said.

Investigators thought Oviedo might be armed with stolen guns, so they called out the Canyon County SWAT team.

Officers from various city, county, and state agencies set up a perimeter around the home and evacuated people living nearby.

Oveido eventually surrendered to police as the SWAT team approached the home, police said. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation, before being booked in the Canyon County Jail.

Charges will likely include felony eluding, possession of paraphernalia, obstruct and delay, as well as possible other charges.
