KELLOGG-- Authorities said a 26-year-old man died Saturday after falling out of a gondola car at the Silver Mountain Ski & Summer Resort near Kellogg, Idaho.
The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office said local authorities received calls about the fall around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
A preliminary report suggested the man climbed out a small window of the moving gondola car despite repeated warnings by his companion to get back inside. Investigators say he fell about 85 feet into steep, rocky terrain.
Authorities, along with resort staff, were able to locate the victim who had extensive injuries. Medical personnel pronounced him dead shortly after arriving on scene. Due to the steep, rocky terrain and darkness, emergency crews stayed on the scene until daylight when it was safe to recover the body.
Investigators said they will continue looking at the case and further information would be released when family members have been notified.
