BOISE -- A Utah man has died after the car he was traveling in crashed on Interstate 84 between Twin Falls and Burley Monday morning.
Idaho State Police say 28-year-old Britney Byrd of Kaysville, Utah, was eastbound on I-84 around 8:30 a.m. in a 2007 Toyota Matrix when the car went off the right side of the road, struck an exit sign and overturned, coming to rest in an embankment near the Kasota Road exit.
Trooper Scott Wall says her husband, 31-year-old Timothy Byrd, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. He was taken by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he died from his injuries.
Britney Byrd and the couple’s three children, a 4-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl and 7-month-old boy were hurt in the accident and taken by ambulance to Saint Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls.
Wall says Britney Byrd and the two youngest children were wearing seat belts. The 4-year-old was not properly restrained. The family was headed back to Utah when the accident happened.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
