SUN VALLEY – The new Sun Valley Roundhouse Gondola celebrated its grand opening Saturday.
Nine Sun Valley Olympians were some of the first to ride the new gondola on Bald Mountain.
Those athletes included Betty Bell of the 1952 U.S. Olympic Ski Team, Dates Fryberger of the 1964 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, Reggie Crist of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Ski Team, Sondra Van Ert of the 1998 U.S. Olympic Ski Team, Tyler Palmer of the 1972 U.S. Olympic Ski Team, Muffy Davis, a two-time overall World Cup Paralympian in 2001 and 2002, Jon Engen of the 1988, 1992, and 1994 U.S. Olympic Ski Teams, Maria Maricich of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Ski Team and Terry Palmer of the 1972 U.S. Olympic Ski Team.
Jack Sibbach with the Sun Valley Resort said that 3,200 people took advantage of the free gondola ride.
Sun Valley will start off its 74th ski season on Thanksgiving Day.
