NAMPA -- A twin brother accused of failing to care for his elderly mother at her Nampa home has pleaded guilty to one count of felony neglect.
The plea Wednesday means 56-year-old Danny Nicks has been convicted of the same crime as his identical twin David. A jury convicted David Nicks of felony criminal abuse or neglect earlier this year.
The brothers were charged in the aftermath of an investigation that started when police found 92-year-old Verda Nicks emaciated, immobile and covered in bedsores. She died six weeks later.
Danny Nicks' plea comes on the second day of his second trial.
His first jury deadlocked in May.
Defense attorneys say they intend to appeal both convictions and will ask judges to delay imposing sentences so the brothers can remain free during their appeals.
