RATHDRUM, Idaho -- A northern Idaho woman says she's thankful alive a year after a terrifying kidnapping ordeal.
Last Dec. 1, Susan-Marie Smith was kidnapped by Mitchell Walck from her home in Rathdrum, Idaho, taken to Washington, North Dakota and then Montana.
She spent 27 hours in captivity of Walck, an armed fugitive who was eventually captured after being found hiding at a truck stop.
Smith, a 63-year-old, was released physically unharmed at a grocery store.
Today, recounting her story to the Coeur d'Alene Press, she says optimistically that the ordeal "could have turned out a whole lot worse."
Walck was sentenced to a decade in prison in October, for charges including terrorizing.
