BOISE -- As part of the Boise's sesquicentennial celebration, a memorial was dedicated today honoring the history of Jesus Urquides, a Boise pioneer from Mexico.

Urquides was a Mexican pioneer who came to Boise as an entrepreneur. He had his mule packing teams help supply the Idaho mining communities back in 1865.

The memorial is a statue that was designed using bronze, sandstone, and porcelain enamel on steel.

"The Mexican heritage and ...of the Mexican immigrants and the becoming of America is all part of one larger very rich story," said Dwaine Carver, the memorial's artist.

The memorial is located on Main Street between First and Second Street.
