BOISE -- The Bureau of Land Management announced Friday that someone vandalized an abandoned mercury milling site which cause it to deposit the mercury onto the soil.
BLM says the site is just south of Homedale and the historic milling apparatus is believed to have been inactive since 1966.
They say they are working to identify and determine the extent of the environmental impacts related to the deposit. Soil samples have been collected and submitted for analysis to determine the amount of mercury concentrations in the ground under the equipment.
BLM is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who have vandalized the equipment.
If you have any information, please call Stan Buchanan of BLM law enforcement at 208-384-3333.
