BOISE -- A 21-year-old Boise man has been jailed on drug and felony injury to a child charges after police found him unconscious in a running car with two young children inside Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were called to a convenience store on the 1500 block of South Orchard around 5 p.m. When they arrived they found Shannon Ferdig Jr. unconscious in the driver's seat of a car with its engine running and two children under the age of five in the vehicle.
When they made contact with Ferdig, police saw syringes and other drug paraphernalia items in plain view. As he got out of the vehicle a small package containing around 2 grams of meth fell on the ground.
Ferdig was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, injury to a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The two children in the car have been placed in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
