MERIDIAN -- Ada County Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg says an autopsy on a man found in a Meridian canal yesterday determined the apparent cause of death is drowning.

The man has been identified as 42-year-old Kleil B. Williams of the Meridian area.

Meridian Police recovered the man in a canal on McMillan Road west of Locust Grove Road.

Tracy Basterrechea, Deputy Chief Meridian Police Department says some people driving by saw something unusual in the canal around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Upon taking a closer look, they thought it may be a body and called police.

The man was transported to St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:35 p.m.

The coroner says the death is still under investigation, and toxicology results could take several weeks.
