VALE , Ore. -- Oregon State Police believe alcohol is a factor in a deadly head-on crash near Vale, Oregon, Sunday night.
According to Lt. Mark Duncan, around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, 41-year-old Teodoro Cruz Ramirez of Vale, was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 255 when his 1998 Pontiac crossed into the westbound lane and slammed head-on into a 2006 International truck pulling a semi-trailer.
Cruz Ramirez was extricated from his car by firefighters, but died on the way to the hospital.
The driver of the semi, 31-year-old Sergey Levko from Woodburn, Oregon, was taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario for treatment of minor injuries.
Prior to the crash being reported, troopers were trying to locate the Pontiac after getting citizen reports about a possible drunk driver.
Highway 20 east of Vale was closed for over two hours Sunday night.
The crash remains under investigation.
