SANDPOINT -- A northern Idaho man who police say crashed a power boat into a moored sailboat has been charged with grossly negligent operation of a vessel, child endangerment and three violations of Idaho's Safe Boating Act.
The Bonner County Daily Bee reports that 36-year-old Jonathan Richard Beckley of Sandpoint was charged Friday and that a public defender entered not guilty pleas.
Authorities say Beckley on Aug. 12 at about 10:30 p.m. crashed a 1978 Thompson Cuddy cabin powerboat into a moored and unoccupied sailboat about 120 feet from shore.
Both boats were heavily damaged, and a female passenger aboard the powerboat told investigators she suffered a fractured tailbone. Court records say a 4-year-old boy aboard the powerboat wasn't injured.
