BOISE -- Dozens of students from Ada County were honored in a special ceremony, known as the Annual Mayors Award to Youth.
These junior and high school students have done extraordinary things both in and outside school boundaries.
With the police and fire bagpipes welcoming 79 students at the Simplot Ballroom Wednesday night, anxious students took a seat among their elite peers.
Each student was selected by their principal or private school leaders because of their tremendous character and their ability to rise above hardships, and serve as leaders.
"It's a very special evening so these students recognize that what they've overcome is really worth wild and there's a community around them that believes in them and encouraging them on to do the next great thing," said Theresa McLeod, Assistant to the City of Boise Mayor.
The mayors of Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Garden City and Star handed the awards out to show they're proud of the Treasure Valley youth.
