BOISE -- A local youngster made a big donation to the Meridian Animal Shelter on Monday.

13-year-old Megan Deines just celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago, but the presents she got were not for her.

"Five years ago on her birthday, she decided that it was better for kids to bring birthday presents for the pets, for the animals at the shelters than a birthday present that, you know, plastic, that's only going to last a short time," said Megan's dad Rob Deines. "I can't be any prouder. She works really hard at it. I think she has the world's record for most dogs petted."

"I really love animals, and they're my favorite.  I just love to help them," said Megan.

Megan collected 300 pounds of dog food and another 150 pounds of cat food. This is her 5th year doing it and she now calls it Megan's "Ani-Meals".
