BOISE -- An Eagle Fire Department captain, died Thursday after a complication from back surgery.

Thirty-six -year-old Brandon Erickson was injured on the job in 2012, and recently went in to have a minor procedure done.

Erickson worked for the Star fire department, Eagle Fire department, and Meridian Fire department, and  had just come back to work for Eagle this year.

"Brandon is one of the most compassionate, kind-hearted, dedicated individuals you could ever meet, and he did so much for our department, our communities, the fire service, the training service in general. You can't replace a guy like Brandon," said Meridian Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer.

Meridian and Eagle Fire Departments say everyone is devastated, but they are supporting each other and Erickson's family.

Back in September, KTVB talked to Erickson about how new automotive technology is making it harder to save lives after a car accident.

Information about services to honor Erickson will be announced in the coming days.
