BOISE -- The Treasure Valley's restaurant landscape is changing and you may soon notice a few new businesses popping up in the area. Some will be brand new, some will be replacing others, and some are even getting a new look.
Einstein Bros. Bagels opened its first store in Boise. It opened in the fall and can be found in the BSU Student Union Building. The restaurant prides itself on its fresh-baked bagels and gourmet coffee.
They may both be "bros", but they aren't related. Dutch Bros. will be opening a new coffee drive through at Orchard Street and Franklin Road in the Fred Meyer parking lot. This drive-thru will be the company's fifth store in Idaho.
The new Dutch Bros. is not the only coffee shop expanding in the area. The owner of four Moxie Java shops is re-branding and opening in new locations. Owner Jason Wilson said Moxie Java is moving toward more of a franchise arrangement, so he decided to go his own way. Two stores in Fruitland, one of which is brand new, now go by the name Big Star Coffee. Wilson's two stores in Meridian will transition to the new brand in February. He is also opening a new coffee shop in Eagle.
"People are responding really, really well to it," Wilson said. "It's exciting for us having a fresh new brand in place, and then being able to market and do whatever we want and go whatever direction we want."
In the midst of the re-branding, and the opening of new locations, Wilson closed the Moxie Java in Ontario, Oregon on Monday.
Iceberg Burgers on Milwaukee Street shuttered its restaurant. The sign on the door tells customers it is now closed. Papers filed with the Planning and Zoning Commission provide information about what could potentially move into its place.
Chick-fil-A is asking the Planning and Zoning Commission for permission to demolish the old Iceberg Burgers building in order to build a new 4,520 square foot drive-thru restaurant.
The Arby's restaurant on Fairview Avenue sits dark. The reason for this closure is unknown at this time. The phone number to the location has been disconnected.
