COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- An explosives team has destroyed a live hand grenade that was found at a northern Idaho home, and investigators are trying to figure out how the grenade ended up there in the first place.

The Spokesman Review reports a Wallace resident called the Shoshone County sheriff's office Sunday evening and told authorities the explosive had been found in a deceased relative's belongings. The deputies called the U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base, for help.

The team determined the grenade was live and took it to local shooting range to destroy it. Deputies are trying to figure out how the deceased relative obtained the grenade, which was a type given to armed forces during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
