BOISE -- It's an annual tradition on Labor Day for people to come together and celebrate the contribution that workers have made to our nation.
The Boise Central Trades and Labor Council sponsored a picnic in Municipal Park today to honor those people.
The annual event featured a barbecue of hamburgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob, salads, drinks and dessert, plus crafts for kids. The event also served as a food drive to help restock the Council's Food Bank.
"A lot of people think this is a union event, and it's not just all about unions. It's about all workers' rights." Council President Heinbach said. "The younger generation, because they don't teach labor history and stuff, a lot of them have no idea what people had to go through to even get the benefits that people take for granted nowadays."
Several hundred people attended the picnic.
