NAMPA -- The Idaho National Guard is saying "thank you" to all those who helped veterans find jobs at the recent Hiring Our Heroes job fair.
This morning at the Idaho Center, Adjutant General Gary Sayler presented awards of appreciation to the state and federal labor departments, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, and our own KTVB General Manager Doug Armstrong for helping make "Hiring Our Heroes" possible.
The Idaho Center began providing space and staff free of charge for job fairs back in 2009, at the depth of the recession.
"In time, we built a great career fair, and this year, it rolled into the national program for veterans -- the Hiring Our Heroes program, which we couldn't be more proud of," said Idaho Center General Manager Craig Baltzer.
"We had over 700 veterans that showed up. About 80 got interviews or jobs. Twenty got jobs on the spot," said Roberto Gonzales with the Idaho Department of Labor.
"Hiring Our Heroes," held last month, also helped connect veterans and their families to training and other support services.
All the folks who helped make it possible told us they want to do it again next year, and make it even bigger.
