BOISE -- A man convicted of kidnapping an Idaho woman at knifepoint and raping her multiple times will serve 30 years in prison.

Florida native Douglas Steinemer expressed remorse in court Tuesday, telling a judge he had changed since he and his father kidnapped and raped a random woman from a Wal-Mart parking lot in Mountain Home in 2003.

Traveling west cross-country in a semi-truck, Steinemer and his father Hans Holsopple left their victim badly injured along Interstate 84 near the Oregon border and eluded arrest until 2010.

District Judge Timothy Hansen said the crimes were among the most heinous he'd seen, and gave Steinemer an extra five years on top of the 25-year sentence recommended by prosecutors.

Holsopple is serving a life sentence.

Steinemer will be eligible for parole after serving 13 years.
