BOISE, Idaho -- A state judge has ordered four men convicted of poaching in central Idaho to spend 200 days in jail and pay more than $25,000 in fines.
The sentence was handed down last week in a Custer County case investigated by Idaho Fish and Game wardens last fall.
Four men pleaded guilty to illegally hunting in the Yankee Fork drainage, and a fifth man was convicted last month but had his sentence suspended. Two other men were issued warnings.
The poachers arrested after a week-long, undercover investigation that began in October. Investigators accused the poachers of killing an elk before the season start. They were also charged with killing at least four mule deer illegally.
Of those convicted, one is from Hailey, Idaho, while the others are from Arizona and California.
