IDAHO FALLS -- The Idaho State Police have completed an investigation into the death of a Salmon woman who was found unconscious in a Lemhi County patrol car after she was arrested on drug charges.
The ISP announced Thursday the results of the investigation into the death of 44-year-old Kari Stephanishen have been turned over to Lemhi County. Prosecutor Paul Withers said he planned to give a copy of the report to Stephanishen's family.
At the time of Stephanishen's death, Lemhi County officials say it appeared she used the seat belt in the patrol car to harm herself. She was found unconscious in the car on Oct. 31 and taken to the hospital in Idaho Falls, where she later died.
KIFI-TV reports her family questioned how she could have hurt herself while she was handcuffed.
