BOISE -- More than 250 Idaho veterans participated in the 26th annual Idaho Veterans Olympics on Saturday.

Vets from the VA Medical Center and other assisted living facilities gathered together to compete in Olympic-style events. Events were designed specifically to help participants in wheelchairs, or for those with limited movement or sight impairments.

Organizers said they had dozens of competitors who served in World War II.

"Probably close to 75 World War II veterans, our greatest generation with us," said Philip Hawkins, Chairman of the Veterans Olympic Committee. "As you know, we are losing a lot throughout the nation everyday. So what an honor it is to have them here today."

Along with the hundreds of vets, hundreds of volunteers came out to help. All participants were given a medal for their efforts.
