IDAHO FALLS -- The FBI officially announced that an Idaho Falls man suspected of killing his mother is in the hands of Cambodia authorities.

In a news release, the FBI said Nathan Helburn, 33, was taken into custody by the Cambodian National Police Thursday.  He is now being held by the Cambodian immigration authorities while the details of his return to Idaho are being worked out.

The body of Mary Helburn was found in her home by police the morning of March 9 while officers were conducting a welfare check requested by her cousin who also lives in Idaho Falls. Both her son and her SUV were missing.

Helburn was originally identified as a person of interest by police.  Two days later, a warrant for his arrest was issued for first-degree murder with a weapons enhancement charge. Then followed a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

On March 15, police found the victim's 2000 Lexus SUV abandoned in California.

A number of agencies worked together to capture Helburn including the Idaho Falls Police Department, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Attaché Bangkok and its Phnom Pehn Office, the FBI Legal Attaché Office in Phnom Pehn, Cambodia, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of State.  A special thanks to the U.S. Embassy Phnom Pehn and the Cambodian National Police.
