OROFINO, Idaho -- A northern Idaho man is charged with kidnapping a 6-year-old boy and two men over the weekend.
The Lewiston Tribune reports 56-year-old Roger Dale Ehler of Lewiston made an initial court appearance in Orofino on Monday on three felony counts of first-degree kidnapping, aggravated battery on a minor child, injury to a child and possession of methamphetamine.
Ehler's bail was set at $600,000.
Sheriff Chris Goetz says Ehler was a friend of the child's grandfather and had been staying at his house west of Orofino for a few days.
Goetz said Ehler "has a history of drug abuse" and "just kind of flipped out on them" on Saturday.
Prosecutors allege Ehler held the child at knifepoint and forced him, the boy's father and another man into a minivan, demanding a ride to Orofino.
