NEZPERCE, Idaho -- Officials in north-central Idaho's Lewis County have buried the cremated remains of five people after years passed without any family members coming forward to claiming the ashes.
The Lewiston Tribune reports county commissioners held a small service last week to bury the remains at a local cemetery.
Commissioner Greg Johnson says they felt it was only proper to treat the remains with some dignity. County Coroner Alan Lusby conducted the brief service at the gravesite, and county and cemetery officials attended.
Officials were unable to find next of kin for some of the deceased; family members relinquished any claims to the other remains.
