BOISE -- The Idaho Republican Party says the campaign working to overturn a new education overhaul is intentionally misleading the public with a television ad targeting the laptop program required under the reforms.
Idaho GOP Chairman Barry Peterson called Tuesday for organizers of Vote No on Propositions 1,2,3 to remove the ad, which says the reform plan replaces teachers with computers by requiring that taxpayers fund the devices.
The ad also claims lawmakers failed to fully fund the $60 million laptop program, so property taxes could increase.
Peterson counters the laptops are fully funded.
Lawmakers set aside $2.5 million for the devices this fall when they'll go to teachers, and the Legislature is statutorily required to fund the program in later years when the costs increase as the laptops go to students.
