BOISE -- Idaho State Police are investigating a head-on accident that killed two people in Payette.

The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 95 between 17th Avenue Northeast and Railroad Lane around 5:30 Monday night.

Police don't know what caused 68-year-old Carolyn Sinner, of Weiser, and 80-year-old Allen St. Clair, of Kamiah to collide head on. There were no other occupants in the vehicles.

It is unknown if the drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Sgt. Jason Cagle with Idaho State Police says weather could be a factor. "Talking with witnesses, it was raining at that time pretty heavily out here," said Cagle.

ISP said U.S. Highway 95 was back open around 8 p.m. after being closed for almost three-and-a-half hours on Monday.

They also remind drivers to slow down when visibility is low.
