Truck driver struck by car after semi jacknifes on I-84

BOISE -- A 51-year-old Arizona man was struck and injured by a passing car as he attempted to direct traffic after a semitrailer accident Monday night on Interstate 84.

The accident reportedly happened just after 10:17 p.m. near the Stage Stop outside of Boise.

Officers with the Idaho State Police say the semitrailer's 46-year-old driver lost control of the rig, causing it to jacknife and block both westbound lanes of the freeway. They say the co-driver of the semitrailer tried to help direct traffic after the accident.

That's when 51-year-old Joel Campos of Tolleson, Arizona was struck and injured by a 25-year-old Mountain Home man driving a 2008 Saturn Aurora.

Campos was airlifted to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. He was treated an released Tuesday morning. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

The accident caused Idaho State Police to block traffic on a 31-mile stretch of I-84 Monday night. The lanes were slowly reopened throughout Tuesday morning.

All lanes of Interstate 84 reopened from Mountain Home to Boise at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday.
