MELBA -- Hundreds of students, staff and family members of Nick Martinez came out to show their respects Monday night following his death this weekend.

Inside the Melba Junior-Senior High School, students held glow sticks as they watched a slide show of Nick and shared their fond memories of him.

His classmates also wrote down messages on Post-it notes and wrote letters to his family.

Nick Martinez's coach and teammates on the football field say he made a lasting impact and will be missed.

"He was almost the only other kid I could feel comfortable out on the field knowing I didn't have to worry about their position as much as mine." said Nick Talbot, who was a teammate of Nick Martinez. "I knew that he would always have my back and not hesitate to help me at all."

According to school administrators, Nick Martinez was hit by a car Friday while on a trip with some family friends.

He was flown to a Utah hospital, but died Saturday.

A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up for Nick's family, where the community can offer their condolences or send donations.
