WASHINGTON -- It's "a matter for the Haitian judicial system." That's how Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is describing the charges against 10 American missionaries who are accused of kidnapping.

They were stopped while trying to bring 33 Haitian children out of that country in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.

Clinton told reporters today that the State Department will "continue to provide support" to the Americans -- as it does whenever U.S. citizens are charged in other counties. And she says she hopes the matter "can be resolved in an expeditious way."

But she says it's a case that Haiti is pursuing "based on the evidence that it presented."

Most of the missionaries are from Idaho -- and members of the state's congressional delegation say they're working to make sure they have access to legal help and medical attention.
