TWIN FALLS -- Twin Falls School District officials in south-central Idaho say they will hire an independent investigator to look into allegations a former high school football coach mistreated players.

The Times-News reports that Superintendent Wiley Dobbs made the announcement Friday on a radio program co-hosted by the newspaper's sportswriters.

District spokeswoman Beth Pendergrass says an investigator hasn't yet been chosen.

Justin Alsterlund resigned last month after two years as Canyon Ridge High School football coach, where he compiled a 5-14 record.

Some players say Alsterlund engaged in emotional and psychological mistreatment of players. But other players denied incidents occurred and endorsed Alsterlund.

The school is now looking for its fourth head football coach in the school's five-year history.

Alsterlund couldn't be reached by The Associated Press on Saturday.
