MOUNTAIN HOME -- Mountain Home Air Force Base is hosting a huge event this weekend -- "Gunfighter Skies 2011"  which is expected to draw 80,000 to 100,000 people.

The Air Force Thunderbirds and the F-15 Strike Eagle Demo Team are among those who will demonstrate the capabilities of our military's high-performance aircraft at the air show, which is happening Saturday and Sunday.

You can also get an up-close look at military planes -- past and present.

Today, the F-15E Strike Eagle Demo Team visited the aerospace engineering class at Columbia High School in Nampa where an airman talked with us about what to expect at Gunfighter Skies.

"Pretty much a non-stop show from 9 o'clock in the morning 'til the air show closes in the afternoon," said Staff Sgt. Gavin O'Neill-Henry. "We're going to have a great swearing-in to show you, the new members of Air Force that have just recently joined. Really, it's just an overwhelming experience of everything the Air Force has for 'em."

Because of the large number of people expected to attend the air show, the Idaho Transportation Department is increasing the speed limit to 65 miles per hour on a 12-mile stretch on Interstate 84 east of Boise that is now under construction.

Gunfighter Skies is happening Saturday and Sunday at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Performances begin at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

Here are some things you can do to make your day a safe and memorable event:

    -  Buses will be running all day between the parking lot and the event area. If you choose not to ride, the walk is approximately one-and-a-half miles from the parking lot to the show area.
     - It will likely be hot on the flightline, so please wear appropriate clothing
     - Please drink plenty of the water that will be provided/for sale to avoid dehydration
     - Wear sunscreen as shaded areas will be limited
     - Bring portable chairs so you'll be more comfortable during the show
     - If you are sensitive to loud noise, you may want to bring ear plugs
