BOISE -- Two conservation groups are offering a $6,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction in the case of a grizzly bear killed near the Idaho/Montana border last fall.

The cash prize is being offered by Idaho-based Western Watersheds Project and the Montana-based Cottonwood Environmental Law Center.

Both groups have been pressing state and federal officials about the death of grizzly bear 726. The bear's collar was recovered from a stream on the federal Sheep Experimentation Station in September -- 18 days after being fitted with the collar.

The groups say the collar was cut and hidden in the stream. The bear was last recorded in an area with government-owned sheep in the Centennial Mountains.

Anyone with information is urged to call Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks tip hotline.
