BOISE -- Boise firefighters say some work by weed-eating goats earlier this summer helped them tame a grass fire this afternoon in the Foothills.

The fire started shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday above the Mountain Cove / Military Reserve area.

A citizen called firefighters, who found a fire of about one-acre in size.

Boise Fire Battalion Chief Tom Pawek said the fire was burning in an area where goats had grazed earlier this summer.

He said that grazing reduced the amount of fuel so that the fire burned more slowly than it would have otherwise.

That helped firefighters keep it from spreading to homes.

The Bureau of Land Management is investigating the cause of the flames.
