BOISE, Idaho -- Delegates at the 2010 State Republican Convention voted to send a letter to an Ada County Commission candidate, demanding he step down from the GOP nomination he won in May on grounds he's worked for known Democrats in the past.
Vern Bisterfeldt, a Boise City Council member, beat Fred Tilman in the May 25 Republican primary. He has no Democratic foe in November.
But Bisterfeldt is campaign treasurer for state Rep. Branden Durst, a Democrat running for state senate.
He also backs U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick, a Democrat.
One GOP delegate said he thought Bisterfeldt needed to "just go away;" Canyon County delegate Larry Pegg said even the Republican Party's big tent "has an inside and an outside."
This fits the GOP's push to enforce more rigorous party discipline, including its lawsuit to close its primaries.
