FRUITLAND -- A potentially-explosive chemical leak forced the evacuation and cleanup of a frozen foods company on Wednesday.

A cloud of anhydrous ammonia gas escaped into the Dickinson's Frozen Foods plant on Wednesday evening, according to the Fruitland Police Department.

The leak was reported just before 9 p.m. Firefighters responded to the plant and evacuated workers afterward.

Police say a state hazardous materials team was able to make entry in the plant, stop the leak, and clean up the gas.

No one was injured.

Anhydrous ammonia can cause serious chemical burns, and is also highly flammable.
