CALDWELL -- Prosecutors say a former Canyon County employee who sent sexually explicit text messages to a 16-year-old girl must serve 30 days in jail.

Jason Cooperdock, 37, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one felony count of sexual battery of a minor after arranging to meet the teen for a sexual encounter.  The girl is the daughter of a friend.

Cooperdock was fired from his job in the Canyon County Assessor’s Office last November.

Canyon County Prosecutor Bryan Taylor says Cooperdock says the judge suspended a nine-year sentence and opted for one month in jail, to be followed by nine years of probation.

Cooperdock must also register as a sex offender, have no contact with the victim and is not permitted to have any unsupervised visits with minors.

Taylor says the girl’s parents were instrumental in helping police catch Cooperdock by monitoring her cell phone usage.
