BOISE -- Two people died in a head-on collision involving two Ford pickups on State Highway 24 Tuesday afternoon.
Idaho State Police say around 2:45 p.m, Rose Pope, 72, of Richfield was westbound on the highway in a 1999 Ford F350 pulling a horse trailer with two horses inside. Josh Burgoyne, 20, of the Rupert/Paul area was eastbound in a 2004 Ford F250 pulling an empty tanker. The two trucks collided head-on at mile post 35, about three miles west of the Minidoka and Lincoln county line.
The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to go off the highway and burst into flames. Both drivers died at the scene.
Police say the horses also died in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
