MERIDIAN, Idaho – Firefighters say a woman suffered grease burns in an early morning kitchen fire that could cause a local restaurant to close for the next few days.
Meridian Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Perry Palmer says the fire broke out at the I-Hop Restaurant at 3525 East Fairview Avenue shortly before 5 a.m.
Palmer says that's when an employee was by herself, preparing to open the restaurant, when a fire started in the kitchen somehow.
Firefighters were able to put the fire out right away.
"When we arrived, there was active fire burning in the kitchen,” Palmer said. “It was quickly extinguished."
Palmer says the woman was taken to a local hospital with minor grease burns.
The restaurant will likely be closed for at least two days.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
