STAR -- Ada County Coroner Erwin L. Sonnenberg has released the name of the five-year-old boy firefighters found near the bottom of a pond near Star, Idaho on Tuesday.

Sonnenberg says 5-year-old Mason Goldberg accidentally drowned on Tuesday evening. Goldberg was pronounced dead at 10:31 p.m.

The Star Police Department and Ada County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate the drowning.

AUTHORITIES ALERTED BY FAMILY

The Ada County Sheriff's Office first got word of the missing 5-year-old around 8 p.m.

Family members say the young boy had been playing behind a home in the 11500 block of West Celestial Drive in Star when he went missing. The child and his family -- all of Nampa -- had been visiting relatives who live at the West Celestial Drive home.

Rescuers from Star Police, Eagle Police, along with the Star and Eagle Fire Departments, responded to the area and began searching for the boy. Members of the Boise Fire Department's dive team also responded and began searching the pond behind the home where the boy was last seen.

DIVE TEAM FINDS BOY

Members of the Boise Fire Dive Team report finding the 5-year-old inside the pond just before 10 p.m.

Firefighters and Ada County Paramedics immediately began CPR, and transported the child to a hospital in Eagle. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives continue to investigate what happened in the moments before, and after, the child went into the water.

An account has been set up at Idaho Central Credit Union in Mason's name for those who would like to help the family financially.
