BOISE -- A man arrested after a crash that seriously injured a Meridian teen in the fall of 2008 will stay behind bars for at least another year and a half.
Troy McClure was sentenced Friday to 15 years for aggravated DUI.
The 26-year-old McClure could be up for parole in three years and today he was given credit for 553 days served.
In September 2008, he was arrested a second time for DUI after police say he ran a red light and hit Sierra Kallam, who suffered a lacerated kidney, broken pelvis and other fractures.
She was in the hospital for more than a month.
The prosecutor said she may never be able to have children and will need reconstructive surgery in 15 years.
Sierra missed her senior year of high school because of her injuries. She's now 19, and may graduate this spring.
McClure pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI in January.
Today, he apologized and said he shouldn't have been drinking.
"I don't want to live this life no more. I don't want to put my family through this. What Sierra has to deal with the rest of her life I feel really bad for. I didn't want to hurt an innocent person and that's what I did," said McClure.
McClure has a lengthy juvenile and adult criminal history that also includes burglary, theft and telephone harassment.
After he is released from prison, he'll lose his driver's license for five years.
