BOISE -- With most schools statewide underway or starting soon, police want to remind drivers to be more alert and use caution near school zones.

Here's some tips:

  • Flashing yellow lights and signs clearly identify most school zones
  • A fine for speeding in a school zone is a minimum fine of $75
  • School kids can be unpredictable, some might not comprehend the danger posed by automobiles

"Drivers need to be aware of that. Kids will look right at you and walk right in front of you. It's not intentional, it's just the way the kids brains are wired," said AAA spokesman Dave Carlson.
