BOISE -- Dozens of Idahoans in need of dental work, but unable to pay for it received a free or low cost exam on Friday.

More than 100 dentists and hygienists gathered at Carrington College in Boise on Friday morning, in what they called a "Dental Mash Unit."

Organizers said they did about $70,000 worth of work and saw as many as 70 patients, patients that often don't have the means to receive dental care.

"We're really able to help people who just can't get access to that treatment, who don't have insurance or really just can't go to a dentist," said Steven Reames, the Executive Director of Genesis World Mission. "And by getting them fillings or extractions or some of that deep root cleaning. We're gonna really help prevent oral health care disease."

Organizers told KTVB events like these are to help people get to the root of the problem, and keep them out of the emergency room.
