MERIDIAN -- The University of Phoenix in Meridian honored the lives of three cyclists killed in the Treasure Valley last year.
Saturday, staff members, family and friends planted a tree on the campus in honor of Jim Chu, Thomas Bettger and Kevin Pavlis.

Volunteers with the Boise Bicycle Project were also at the event to teach children bicycle safety tips.

There was even a bike rodeo and obstacle course for the kids.

Event organizers said they hope cyclists and drivers will learn something from today's event.

"People will go away today with a greater sense of awareness on the roads and safety in the car and in the bicycle and also be reminded of the three lives of the three cyclists who passed away last year," said Bill Bach with the University of Phoenix.

In addition to the tree, there will be a permanent memorial at the University of Phoenix campus in Meridian to remind everyone the importance of bicycle and road safety.
