BLACKFOOT, Idaho -- Bingham County officials have summoned 82 people to court for failing to respond to a jury questionnaire.

The Idaho State Journal reports that jury commissioner Cathy Miles says the county always has some people fail to respond, but 82 is an unusually high number.

The once-potential jurors will be asked to explain why they didn't return the questionnaire, which determines who may serve on a jury. Under Idaho law, those that can't show cause could be fined $300 or face three days in jail.

Still, Miles says those summoned may get a second chance: If they contact her before the Jan. 11 court date, they can fill out the questionnaire in her office and get out of the summons.
