BOISE -- A man convicted of stealing millions from retirees to fix up his house and try to buy an Idaho resort has a new attorney just weeks before his sentencing.

U.S. District Magistrate Judge Candy Dale on Monday appointed new counsel for Matthew Hutcheson after his former attorney sought to be removed over conflicts with his client.

Now arguing on Hutcheson's behalf is Ryan P. Henson, a Nampa criminal defense attorney specializing in vehicular manslaughter, domestic battery, and drug crimes.

Dale wrote Hutcheson can't afford to pay for his lawyer, but doesn't want to go into the July 31 sentencing hearing without representation.

Hutcheson was convicted of 17 counts of wire fraud after prosecutors charged him with raiding retirement accounts to buy vehicles, remodel his Eagle home and acquire Tamarack Resort.
