BOISE -- There was a celebration Wednesday night for the City of Boise's newly acquired foothills property, referred to as "Hillside to Hollow."

Dozens gathered for the inaugural ceremony at 24th Street and Spring Mountain Drive.

City officials and Boise Parks and Recreation say it's a project that's been years in the making. Having to strike a deal with all 51-property owners to buy the nearly 260 acre site.

According to all those involved it was worth the wait.

"This is arguable the best piece of property in foothill property. Simply not only the size of it, but the accessibility. In that it will be open for everyone to use in the valley," said Doug Holloway with Boise Parks and Recreation.

The city finalized its purchase this spring, and the nearly $2 million price tag was covered by the foothills levy fund.

Parks and Recreation says down the road, they'll hold neighborhood meetings to discuss a master plan of the trails and parking for area.
