PARMA – One man is facing a number of felony and misdemeanor charges after he allegedly stole a car and hit a Parma Police Officer.

It happened at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday. An officer responded to a report of a suspicious subject in front of a residence on East Grove Avenue. As the officer approached, a male later identified as Lorenzo Ramos-Renteria came forward and uttered a phrase in Spanish, mentioning something about California. The officer believed the subject was asking for directions, and ran the license plate on the vehicle.

The officer discovered that Ramos-Renteria had taken the vehicle at gunpoint from the Moses Lake area of Washington State earlier in the day.

The officer commanded Ramos-Renteria to get on the ground, but Ramos-Renteria laughed and ran back to the stolen vehicle. The officer pursued and was struck by the suspect, who then ran into an area occupied by numerous onion crates.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in searching for Ramos-Renteria and blocking off the area.

Ramos-Renteria was later found to be hiding in the bed of a truck located on the premises of Giant Produce.  He tried to flee the scene and after a brief struggle, a police Taser was deployed and Ramos-Renteria was taken into custody. He was later checked by medics.

Ramos-Renteria was transported to the Canyon County Jail where he was booked on felony charges of possession of stolen property, possession of controlled substance. He was also booked on the misdemeanor charges of battery on a peace officer, eluding arrest, obstruct and delay and failure to purchase a driver’s license.

Ramos-Renteria will be arraigned Monday at 1:00 p.m.
