CALDWELL -- A local animal shelter is in the running to win the ASPCA Rachael Ray challenge.

Folks at the Canyon County shelter say they are on pace to win the 100 thousand dollar prize. The contest compares adoptions from August, September and October of this year to the same months last year. The shelter with the biggest increase will win

After August, the Canyon County Animal Shelter was ranked first out of the top fifty shelters in the competition.

"We will be screaming with joy if we win. We can do a lot of projects with the animals, a lot of programs if we win that money," said Barb Hutchinson, of the Canyon County Animal Shelter.

Hutchinson said they are doing a lot of off-site events. And they've reduced the adoption fee on lots of the animals. The winner will be announced at the end of November.
